March is here already! And with the onset of spring, many of us have a big house cleanup scheduled. While the kitchens, halls, and bedrooms are getting valuable attention, it’s also a good time to check the dental supplies to make sure everything is tiptop. So in this post, we provide some quick tips on refreshing your dental supplies.
Tooth Brushes
The ADA recommends that consumers replace toothbrushes approximately every 3–4 months or sooner if the bristles become frayed with use. Please note: This recommendation also applies to electric toothbrushes. Also, if you have been sick with a cold or the flu, it’s a good idea to replace your toothbrush soon afterwards.
Mouth Wash
Several popular brands such as Scope and Listerine have expiration dates on the label. Be sure to check this date and discard the product if it is past its date.
Clear Retainers, Mouth, and Night Guards
Many people use mouth guards for protection against teeth grinding or to prevent sports injuries. After repetitive use, these products can become dirty, even if you scrub them with a toothbrush every day. The best recommendation is to bring the appliance into us so we can clean it thoroughly. Also, spring is a good time to replace the cases for these appliances.
Dentures
The general recommendation is to brush your dentures daily. But spring is a great time to bring them in to our office for a professional cleaning. We will also examine your dentures to make sure the fit is still perfect and that the inside of your mouth is still healthy.
