Cosmetic Dentistry Services Available at Ortega Boulevard Dental

A smile you feel good about does not have to mean a complicated treatment plan. At Ortega Boulevard Dental, we offer two paths to a brighter, more confident smile. We’ll talk with you about your goals and help you determine which path works best for you.

Teeth Whitening

A simple way to brighten your smile without changing the shape or structure of your teeth. Our in-office Philips ZOOM! whitening treatment can lift stains from coffee, tea, and everyday wear in about two hours, with results that continue to improve over the following two weeks.

Veneers

A longer-term option for correcting chips, gaps, staining, or teeth that are uneven in shape or size. Veneers are thin porcelain shells, about as thin as a contact lens, custom made to fit over your existing teeth with very little reshaping required.

What your neighbors are saying

The staff and dentist (Dr. Hekkert) are incredibly kind, professional, and attentive. They explained everything clearly and really listened. Pricing was shown upfront, and not after the fact which I liked. My teeth look 20 years younger.

Nicole Y.

Erik Hekkert was an amazing dentist, very professional and his team was 100% excellent. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. I came in for a simple exam. I let them know my concerns on some of my teeth and I was able to get a same-day extraction on two of the main teeth I wanted out. This was a great experience and I definitely recommend this dentistry

Brandon W.

My visit to the dentist today was pleasant as always. I’ve been a patient here for years and this practice is consistent in providing excellent service. The staff are always pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable regarding my dental needs.

Christine M.

Everyone at Ortega Boulevard Dental is so kind. They make going to the dentist a pleasant experience. You never have to wait long and they are extremely efficient! Dr. Hekkert and his team are great, …I would highly recommend going here!

Why Patients Choose Ortega Boulevard Dental for their Dental Needs

A neighborhood fixture since the 1950s

Ortega Boulevard Dental has been part of this community for over 70 years, not a practice that just opened up nearby.

Same-day crowns, done right

Dr. Hekkert has been placing same-day CEREC crowns since 2003, bringing that experience to Ortega Boulevard Dental patients today.

Comfort-focused technology

Digital X-rays, a CBCT 3-D X-ray machine, and a Single Anesthesia System that regulates injection flow and pressure for a more comfortable visit.

In-network with major PPOs

We are in-network with Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental, Guardian, MetLife, and many more, with several financing paths for anything insurance doesn’t cover.

One doctor for implant and crown

In most cases, Dr. Hekkert places the implant and delivers the restorative crown himself, so you’re not routinely sent elsewhere mid-treatment.

No pressure, ever

We will never push you to get treatment you don’t need, and we will be honest about what we think is best for you. We’ll partner with you to make sure you are receiving the dental care you deserve.

Teeth Whitening: What It Is and How It Works

Over time, teeth naturally pick up staining from everyday things like coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco, and the color underneath can also shift a bit with age. Teeth whitening treatment uses a bleaching agent that breaks down that staining at the surface and just beneath it, lifting your teeth to a brighter shade.

In our office, we offer Philips ZOOM! Whitening, an in-office treatment where you sit comfortably for about two hours while we work through a few sessions tailored to your comfort level, since teeth can get more sensitive the longer the whitening process runs. Most patients leave with teeth up to three shades whiter, and the whitening effect continues for about two weeks afterward.

For patients who would rather whiten at home, we also offer take-home whitening syringes so you can brighten your smile on your own schedule.

Veneers: What Are They and How Do They Work?

Veneers are thin custom shells, usually made of porcelain, that are bonded to the front of your teeth to change their color, shape, or size. They are a good option when whitening alone will not get you the result you are picturing, whether that is because of chips, gaps, staining that will not lift, or teeth that are uneven.

Getting veneers generally takes more than one visit. Your dentist will talk through your goals, take an impression or scan of your teeth, and have your veneers custom made to match the color and shape of your natural smile before they are bonded into place. We will walk you through what that process looks like for your specific situation before you make any decisions.

Not Sure Which Option is Right for Your Smile?

We will talk with you about your goals and help you decide what makes the most sense for you

Whitening vs. Veneers: Which is Right for You?

Both options can brighten your smile, but they solve different problems.

Teeth Whitening

  • Changes the shade of your teeth
  • Simpler, lower-cost option
  • Results are more temporary and will need to be refreshed over time

Veneers

  • Change the shade, shape, and size of teeth
  • Results last longer, typically for years
  • Involve custom fabrication and implementation process
  • Usually have a higher up-front cost.

If your main goal is a brighter smile and nothing else is bothering you about your teeth, whitening is usually the simpler starting point. If you are dealing with chips, gaps, or shape issues that whitening cannot fix, veneers may be worth a conversation.

Our Process for Cosmetic Dentistry

01. Initial Consultation

We will start with a conversation about what you would like to change about your smile, then take a look and give you our honest opinion on your options.

02. Treatment Plan

Once we know what you are hoping for, we will walk you through what whitening or veneers would involve for your specific case, including cost and timeline, so you can make an informed choice.

03. Treatment

Whether you choose whitening or veneers, we will schedule your visit and walk you through what to expect at each step.

Financing and Insurance Options for Cosmetic Dentistry

Coverage for cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers varies by plan, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider directly to see what, if anything, is covered. For patients covering costs out of pocket, we offer financing through Sunbit and CareCredit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Dental Treatment

Is teeth whitening safe for my enamel?

Yes. Whitening treatments work by breaking down stain molecules within the tooth, not by wearing away enamel itself. The temporary sensitivity some patients notice comes from the whitening agent passing through the tooth, not from any lasting damage to the enamel.

Will my teeth be sensitive after whitening?

Some patients notice mild sensitivity, especially the longer a whitening session runs. We adjust your treatment to your tolerance to help keep this comfortable.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Philips ZOOM! whitening results typically continue to brighten for about two weeks after treatment, and results generally last several months before touching up.

Will veneers look natural?

Yes. We match the color and shape of your veneers to your natural teeth, so that your resulting smile still looks like your smile, but is brighter and straighter.

Am I a good candidate for veneers?

It depends on your teeth and your goals. We will take a look and give you an honest opinion on whether veneers make sense, or whether a simpler option would work just as well.

Does insurance cover cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic treatments like whitening and veneers are generally not covered by dental insurance. We can talk through financing options that may help.
