A smile is one of your most important social and business assets. In fact, a recent survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists (AACD) found that three out of every four people interviewed said, “an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chance for career advancement.” Additionally, 96% of the adults interviewed said “an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex.”

In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the main reasons why smiles can be diminished and how we can help patients across Jacksonville keep their smiles bright and healthy.

Teeth Staining

In the AACD survey, respondents were asked: “What would you like to improve most about your smile?” The most common response was: “Whiter & brighter teeth.”

Issues like aging, traumatic injuries, fluorosis, and medications can leave teeth stained on the inside. In these instances, brushing and oral hygiene cannot help. External factors, however, are also big teeth staining culprits. The following list contains the most common teeth staining consumables:

  • Tobacco
  • Wine
  • Tea
  • Cola
  • Sports Drinks
  • Berries (blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, and other intensely colored fruits)
  • Sauces (soy sauce, tomato sauce, curry sauce, and other deeply colored sauces)
  • Sweets (if your tongue turns a funny color, there’s a good chance your teeth will be affected, too.)

Our Smile Makeovers

Our office offers the Zoom Whitening option. Zoom whitening is an in-office whitening system that can whiten your teeth up to 8 shades in one hour.

In these before/after photos, the Zoom Whitening difference is easy to see.

And while there are many options for take-home whitening systems and over-the-counter solutions, in-office procedures like our Zoom Whitening treatments are the preferred method. Because of our training, we can use whitening agents with a higher degree of power than the take-home options while better protecting the gums and mouth. Even patients with highly sensitive teeth can undergo our in-office treatment without discomfort. In addition, many of the over-the-counter solutions have one-size-fits-all mouth trays that may not fit your mouth’s shape. At our office, the whole treatment is customized to your goals.
